Nearly 50% of tractors still operating are not protected by a Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS).

The National ROPS Rebate Program addresses this problem by offering monetary incentives to farmers to install these life saving devices.

THE PROCESS

To participate in the National ROPS Rebate Program and receive a rebate, you must follow the steps outlined below:

1.

Enroll by calling (877) ROPS-R4U – (877) 767-7748 or clicking here!

2.

We will provide you with sourcing information and cost estimates for eligible ROPS kits and let you know when funding is available for you.

3.

Once we confirm that funding is available for you AND you confirm that you are ready to move forward at that time, you will be pre-approved and will have ten days to order your ROPS. Please note that without pre-approval from us, your ROPS purchase may not be eligible for a rebate.

4.

You order your ROPS kit and send us proof of purchase price and estimates for professional installation (if applicable). We reserve your funding upon completion of this step.

5.

Once your ROPS is installed, collect all of the necessary documents and send them to us via mail, email, or fax. See Resources for Retrofitters or official program communications for more information.

6.

We’ll send you a rebate (check or direct deposit) for all eligible expenses within 60 days!

*The exact rebate scheme varies slightly from state to state. IA, MN, NH, NY, PA, VT, and WI offer 70%, with a $500 out-of-pocket cap for the farmer (we increase the rebate amount if your cost is greater than $500!). Massachusetts offers a 70% rebate, up to $865; for MA farmers sun canopies purchased with the ROPS kits are also eligible to be rebated.

Everything you need to ensure your rebate is processed in a timely manner.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a ROPS?

A ROPS (rollover protective structure) attaches to a tractor and provides a safety-zone for the operator. In the event of an overturn or rollover, ROPS help prevent the tractor operator from being crushed under the tractor. ROPS are commonly referred to as “rollbars,” which are just one type of ROPS; ROPS can also come in the form of a cab, though cabs are not eligible for rebate through this Program.

How much does a ROPS cost?

Rollbar prices vary according to the tractor make and model. Prices run from approximately $150 all the way up to nearly $2,500 plus shipping and installation.  Through the National ROPS Rebate Program; however, you can get a 70% rebate* toward the cost of your ROPS kit (rollbar and seatbelt), shipping, and professional installation (required in WI and IL; highly recommended in all other states).

*Varies in some states. Please see our “Rules for Retrofitters” for more information.

Can I receive a rebate for a ROPS kit that was purchased or installed previously?

ROPS kits purchased or installed prior to enrolling in the National ROPS Rebate Program are not eligible for a rebate. All participants must follow the procedures laid out on the “How the National ROPS Rebate Program Works” page [link]; these instructions require farmers to register for the Program and be pre-approved prior to ordering their kits.

Do I have to purchase a ROPS from the list of sources you sent me?

No; participants may order their ROPS from whichever source they choose, as long as they meet Program requirements. The Program requires that ROPS kits meet appropriate national or international ROPS standards and include seatbelts. Used kits are only allowed if new kits are not commercially available.

Do used ROPS qualify for the rebate?

Used, certified rollbars are allowed only when new kits are not commercially available, and must be installed only on the tractor they are intended for (as per manufacturer approval). Please contact National ROPS Rebate Program staff for used ROPS requirements prior to purchasing. Additional approvals are necessary to qualify used ROPS for this Program.

Can I get a canopy as well?

Canopies are eligible for rebate in some states. Please contact us at (877) 767-7748 or info@ROPSr4u.org for the most up to date information.

Can I make my own ROPS?

No; custom fabricated or homemade ROPS are not allowed through this Program. In order to receive a rebate, your ROPS kit must be certified to the appropriate national or international standards. The certification process requires extensive engineering testing. By certifying a ROPS kit, manufacturers are letting you know that the ROPS will protect you in an overturn, when used appropriately (i.e. on the proper tractor, with folding ROPS in the “up” position).

Even if you choose not to participate in the National ROPS Rebate Program, we highly recommend that you do not build your own ROPS. Homemade ROPS may not be able to protect the operator in a rollover or overturn.

Do I have to have my ROPS Installed Professionally?

To receive your rebate, you must submit proof of purchase and installation to National ROPS Rebate Program staff. This includes: 1) copies of receipts for the purchase and shipping of the ROPS kit and; 2) either copies of receipts for professional installation or “before and after” photos of your tractor (if the kit was self-installed). In addition, all states require a completed W-9 form or other financial document. All required forms were sent to you with your approval letter and can be downloaded here. [link to W9]

Unless otherwise instructed, all documentation can be sent via US post, email, or fax to:
The National ROPS Rebate Program
The Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety
One Atwell Road
Cooperstown, NY 13326

Email: info@ROPSr4u.org
Fax: (607) 547-6087

Massachusetts residents, please note that your original W-9, Electronic Funds Transfer, and Terms and Conditions Contract must be submitted via US post (no photocopies, emails, or faxes will be allowed).

How long will it take before I receive my rebate check?

National ROPS Rebate Program staff will begin processing your rebate immediately upon receipt of all required documentation. You will receive your rebate check within 60 business days after this time.

How many tractors can I retrofit and receive a rebate on?

Only one tractor, per farm, per year can be retrofitted in most states. In states with sufficient funding, additional tractors may be allowed. Please contact the National ROPS Rebate Program staff for the most up-to-date information.

Who funds this Program?

The administration of the National ROPS Rebate Program is funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and facilitated by the Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety: Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing (NEC). In some instances, state funding is reserved for rebate funding; in others, private donations have been collected for these purposes. See a complete list of funders here! [insert link]

Can I sign up, even if there is no funding in my state?

Yes! If there is no program currently available in your state, you can still register for the National ROPS Rebate Program and receive information about the kits available for your tractor. You’ll also be placed on a waitlist so that once funding becomes available in your state, Program staff can begin contacting farmers in the order that they were added. By signing up, you are also letting potential funders know that this Program is important to you!

Is there anything I can do to get a Program going in my state?

Yes! There are several things that you can do to help get a program started:

  1. Bring the National ROPS Rebate Program up at your next Farm Bureau or National Farmers’ Union policy meeting, and propose that it is added to the group’s priorities!
  2. Write a letter to your state and federal representatives, letting them know why funding for the National ROPS Rebate Program is so important to you and others in your state!
  3. If you know of companies who might be interested in funding the National ROPS Rebate Program, call us at 1-877-767-7748. Our fundraising team can work to connect with these organizations!

If you have questions or other ideas of how you can help, please call us at 877-767-7748!

I work at a dealership, and want to get involved. What can I do?

Dealerships can be involved to varying extents. Please contact the National ROPS Rebate Program staff at (877) 767-7748 or info@ROPSr4u.org to get started today!

I work at a dealership, and we aren’t sure what companies supply ROPS. Who can we purchase from?

Several companies manufacture ROPS kits. John Deere and Kubota both provide kits for their own tractors. In addition, you can also order ROPS for many tractor makes and models from after-market manufacturers such as Iron Bull Manufacturing and BareCo. Each farmer will be provided with a list of ROPS available for his/her tractor, and the respective manufacturers which you can use as guidance. If you have additional questions, please contact us at (877) ROPS-R4U or info@ROPSr4u.org.

If you have further questions or would like more information, please contact us!
